By Jill Benone:
This was Principal Lenore Lacey’s thirteenth and last year at VW, and also marked an end to the considerable contributions of Bruce Hinckley, past Steering Committee Chairman / Producer / Actor. Bruce always played the PTA president, whose character could be relied upon to explain the plot. The orchestra was composed largely of Steve Hill’s GCC students, abetted by the Hilltopper’s Brass Ensemble.

Cornelius, the Court Jester, enlists the kids and Mike Lichtman for a quest to solve the riddle of the dancing princesses (the Grimm Brothers had twelve; we shrunk to four). They are aided by the PTA ladies (Mmes. Morgan, Lee, and Fay – Morgan LeFay) At the court, they encounter King Frankincense, Queen Myrrh and Lord Pumperdink, two suitors, a witch looking for justification, and a Messenger who is a deux ex machina. The princesses were enchanted, of course, to travel on an magic boat over a lake to a hidden island where they dance the entire night away, which meant the price of shoe leather was bankrupting the country. It all worked out in the end.

In the program, as it had for the past several years, was a note inviting Ancient Lovelies to contact the school, as the fiftieth year was approaching.

Donations from Follies to VW was $5,323.63 for a Copy Machine and $5,000.00 to PTA.
