By Jill Benone:
This is a rewrite of West Fairyland , although the opening scene with Eddie the Crossing Guard has been cut, Eddie probably having retired. The extant script is a thermo-fax copy of the original 1961 script, with pencilled cuts drawn through several scenes. It has been re-pasted.

The show now starts in the kindergarten room with the teacher and students. Principal (Don) Fiske stops the little girl sneaking out of the classroom. Scenes seem to have been changed and/or eliminated and/or added. The Little Girl still runs into the White Rabbit, Snow White and her dwarfs (unnumbered), the group from Oz, Jack and Jill, Wee Willie Winkie, Georgie Porgie, the Old Woman in the Shoe. Bo-Peep, Miss Muffet, Red Riding Hood with the Wolf, and Simple Simon and the Pieman . Good ol’ Rick Bark is still concerned with selling his sponsors’ products. Chicken Licken (sic) is continually warning of the sky falling, and the Queen of Hearts still tells her Executioner "off with their heads!”

At the end of the show, the little girl wakes up from this nightmare. Her mother tells her all her friends have come to walk her to school. The fairyland characters come onstage, "sing the finale song "Pretty Girl”, and exit.

In November of 1967, Steve Smith began his fifteen years of service as VW prrncipal. Following the example set by Don Fiske, he would appear in all Follies productions of his tenure beginning in 1968. Both he and Fiske returned several times as Ancient Lovelies.
