FATHERS’ FOLLIES OF 1952
The Fifth Year: March 21 and 22, 1952
Producer: Murray McDougal
Dirrector: Joe Sauers
Writer: Larry Clemmons and Alden Waite
Program/Poster Art: Al Taliaferro
The Verdugo Woodlands "Pops" Orchestra
By Jill Benone:
Original producer Ben McNeil was forced to resign due to illness and Murray McDougal stepped in. (The producer’s name was spelled backwards in the program, the only means of identification in these early shows.) The story seems to have revolved around an election – this was the year Eisenhower was elected, which may or may not have had anything to do with it.
The scene titles do not clearly identify the content. There was a 1920s flapper dance number ("Flashing Flock of Flaming Flappers") and the first performance of a trolley car down Canada (“Above Board and Below Opechee”) were among the fifteen skits in Act I.
The seven skits of Act II featured local establishments -- Johnny’s Headliner, a drive-in located on Canada Boulevard. The Sizzler replaced Johnny for years and was followed by MacDonald’s.
One number was listed as “Ballet of the Ballots”. One hundred two men are listed in the program..
